 JIM MCWILLIAMS - YOUR LABOUR CANDIDATE

It is a privilege to offer myself as the Labour candidate to represent the Pelaw and Heworth Ward.
Having lived all of my life in the Ward I am well aware of the needs of our local community.
Over the years I have been an active campaigner for improvements in the ward.
I am currently concerned about the problems of traffic congestion across the ward and, with your support, I would work to ensure that residents receive priority by the introduction of greater traffic calming measures in ‘hotspots’ across the ward.
Unlike previous years this will not be an all-postal election.
Should you require a postal vote please refer to the information overleaf.
Should you require assistance in getting to the polling station on election day, or would like to display a poster, please call: Jim McWilliams on 0191 469 4560

WORKING WITH PEOPLE - SERVING THE COMMUNITY

Here we look at some of the improvements which have been made or are being campaigned for the benefit of Pelaw and Heworth people:
* TRANSPORT
A free bus travel scheme is being brought in from 1 April for disabled people and those over sixty.
Major improvements to the Pelaw Metro Station have been undertaken.
A new gold card is being brought in too. It costs £8 a year but enables pensioners to travel without charge on the Metro.
* TRAFFIC CONGESTION
The Action Team is campaigning for the introduction of the following measures
The introduction of a residential parking scheme for residents directly affected, particularly in the vicinity of Pelaw Metro station
Traffic calming measures to prevent motorists using side roads off Shields Road as ‘rat-runs’ to ensure the safety of children in the area.
*  ISSUES
If you would like to identify any issues that affect you in the ward, please contact Jim McWilliams on 0191 469 4560
