YOUR LABOUR TEAM - WORKING HARD FOR YOU

Here we look at some of the issues on which your councillors have been working for you:
* INVESTMENT IN SCHOOLS
Your Labour councillors supported the investment in new computer facilities at Roman Road School. This will have immediate benefits for the children of Leam Lane.
* YOUR WARDENS VOTED THE BEST
Your team of wardens have won the northern regional award for outstanding services to the community - a well deserved award.
* PHONE MASTS
Your councillors campaigned for the third time against the extension of the phone mast at Heworth testing station near the Whitehills Estate
Other issues your local councillors have taken up on your behalf include: motorcycles, anti-social behaviour, fly tipping, under age drinking and the Colegate bus stop.
* WARDENS
With the help of four neighbourhood wardens and police community support officers we are working towards our aim of combating anti-social behaviour and nuisance. We are in regular contact with council departments and outside agencies to try and resolve these issues. If you have any concerns you can contact the wardens on 0788 783 0626 and the police on 454 7555.
* TRANWELL UNIT
The putting up of a fence between the Tranwell Unit and Kane Gardens should ease the parking problems in Kane Gardens
* BUS ROUTES
To ease and improve traffic flow the junction of Woodburn and Staneway is to be widened to accommodate the turning buses.
* ONE STOP SHOP
The Sure Start building at Fewster Square supports and provides a community centre, library, housing office and scheme facilities for children 0 ? 4 years old. This facility will allow you access council information and to lodge any complaints.
* RESIDENTS GROUP
A residents’ group has been set up to work with your local council.
The aims of the group are to improve the parkland environment with safe, pleasant walkways and encourage the natural wildlife to flourish.
A council bid for £100,000 has been put forward to the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. Hopefully, this will be successful. The group is putting further bids for external funding to the National Lottery and the People’s Millions.
The group is always looking for new members and new ideas.
Why not join? Contact your local councillors for details.
If you are interested in setting up a residents’ group contact the team for more information.
