Your local Labour Party getting things done
JOE LISLE - YOUR LABOUR CANDIDATE
It is an honour and a very great privilege to have been selected as Labour candidate for Low Fell in the local election.
“Having worked with the Labour Action Team over the last few months we have identified a number of issues that need addressing in Low Fell, particularly traffic, the environment, housing, lighting and education.
Gateshead’s Labour Council have embarked on a number of improvements in several areas and are committed to bringing benefits to all parts of the borough, it is this commitment that makes me want to be part of their drive for excellence.
For too long Low Fell residents have not had a Labour Councillor to represent them and their needs at the highest level in the council. All I ask is for the opportunity to be that representative and ask you to give me your support by voting for Joe Lisle in the local election.
Joe LisleABOUT JOE LISLE
Joe served in the army in many different parts of the world for ten years until he had to leave due to injuries sustained whilst on duty.
His tours of duty in the army had taken him to several areas of trouble and deprivation which convinced him he needed to put something back into society in return for the opportunities he had. He joined the Labour Party four years ago and has been a tireless worker always helping wherever he can.
He has involved himself in many community groups in Gateshead and is a governor on three schools including Dryden Special School. He is currently a member of Felling Sure Start and Children’s Centre and has recently been appointed to one of Gateshead Council’s scrutiny panels.
A father of four young children Joe is well aware of many of the problems facing young families.
Joe Lisle is very keen to be your representative on the Council - why not give him that chance?YOUR LABOUR TEAM - WORKING HARD FOR LOW FELL
Low Fell Labour Party Action Team has been working for some time now on a number of issues raised by residents through door to door discussions, surveys and views sent to us.
We have had concerns expressed about the following:
* The traffic problems at the junction of Kells Lane, Beaconsfield Road and Dryden Road.
* Illegal parking in many areas of Low Fell and the ongoing concerns about parking on pavements.
* The unsafe practice of vehicles using short cuts through estates to avoid hold-ups at busy junctions.
* Inconsiderate dog owners allowing their pets to foul pavements and grassed areas and not clearing up the mess.
* Poor street lighting in a number of areas.
* Damage to grass verges on Beacon Lough Road caused by inconsiderate parking.
We intend to ask the Council to deal with these problems as soon as possible.
If you have any other issues you would like us to look into please contact Joe Lisle and the Low Fell Labour Action Team at the email address or telephone number below or use the form below.

What has Gateshead Labour Council done in Low Fell to improve the area?
* Safer routes to schools for children around Kells Lane, Oakfield and St Peter’s primary schools.
* Environmental improvements and new tree planting in places like Coleridge Avenue and the entrance to Springfield Place.
* mproved street lighting.
* Continuing a programme of resurfacing roads and pavements in areas around Lorton Road and Ambleside Place, Saltwell Road and the next area will be Cross Keys Lane.
* The council has nearly completed the improvements to Saltwell Park which now has the accolade of being the best park in the country.
The park provides many new facilities and gives a much-needed green space for the Low Fell area.
* Low Fell schools have benefited from investment in buildings, equipment and educational attainment that has seen Gateshead become one of the best performing education authorities in the country.
* Council tenants will benefit from improvements to their houses due to the funds available for Decent Homes Standards.
These standards also apply to Housing Associations.TIME FOR CHANGE
The Liberal Democrats will tell you how well their Newcastle counterparts have done in keeping the Council Tax increase down but neglect to tell you the cost in jobs and services!
They have not proposed an alternative budget for Gateshead residents again this year and they voted against financing school and other vital services.
So what exactly do they propose for Gateshead?
What do they do apart from trying to take the credit for work done by others?
Surely, it’s time for change in Low Fell.LOW UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES FOR DECEMBER
Gateshead Council is working well with business and the Government to deliver a vibrant local economy according to a Labour Party Action Team.
“With an unemployment rate below that of the Tyne and Wear, Gateshead has slightly more unemployment than the national average,” commented Joe Lisle of the Low Fell Labour Party Action Team.
Figures for December 2005 showed that only 3.9 per cent of the population in Gateshead were out of work.
In the same month only 1.1 per cent of people in Low Fell were looking for work.
“Although there’s still much to do in creating employment opportunities,” added Mr Lisle, “the figures shows that the Government and other agencies are working well together to get people back into employment.”
